FERRULE PLUGS
The GW Field
Grade ferrules
are machined
from solid
nickel silver
bar stock. The
females have a
simple welt, and
the males have a single, decorative
groove machined in the center of
the shoulder. Our Field Grade
ferrules have won popular approval
because they combine exceptional
affordability with proven GW-
quality machining. Due to the
high volume of production and
innovative machining techniques,
we can offer these ferrules at prices
significantly less than tube stock
ferrules.
We spent months working on the
design and production of these
ferrules, and the effort shows in
the final product. The waterseal in
each ferrule is flat on both sides.
All the interior bores of the ferrules
end against a flat surface; there is
no unwanted air pocket left as a by-
product of using a conical drill bit to
bore the ferrules from the bar stock.
We insisted on flat bottoms; and,
after much experimentation, we got
what we asked for. The cross-section
of our bar-stock ferrules mimics
that of the finest quality tube-stock
ferrules, but with several additional
benefits. Because there are no
solder joints, there is essentially
no risk of blowing out a waterseal
when mounting the ferrules. Also,
since there are no solder joints, the
ferrules blue evenly. In machining
these ferrules, we have used slow
feed rates, which makes for an
exceptionally fine finish, free of tool
marks. Males are 0.001” oversized.
GW ferrule plugs are also 0.001”
oversized, making them an easy fit
when using our ferrules.

FERRULE PLUGS
When the time was ripe for ferrule
plugs, Erica sat down with a pencil and
gathered the team over her shoulder
and drafted a finial-capped, solid
nickel silver ferrule plug with a design
that is at once timeless and unique to
GW. The slide of the GW ferrule plug
is sized to be 0.001” - 0.004” over the
female ferrule I.D. of most commonly
available ferrules. A few minutes
of work will allow the rodmaker to
make the ferrule plug fit as snugly as
the slide of a male ferrule. The plug
will stay in place unless pulled from
its dwelling, whereupon it will pop
with a smooth, professional pop. The
shoulder of the ferrule plug will be
exceedingly close to the welt diameter
of a matching female ferrule because
every plug size is of a corresponding
diameter. In conjunction with the
tear-drop head, the up-swoop from
the diminished diameter of the neck
provides the first half of a secure
gripping point so that a snug plug
can be easily removed. Each plug
has a fine matte finish, reminiscent
of traditional plugs. A minute of
polishing will bring the metal to
a mirror finish and, if you like, a
dunking in Oxpho-Blue will turn the
plug a deep blue-black. Please note, the nominal sizes listed below are scaled to match the male OD/female ID for Swiss style ferrules of the same nominal size (not the actual size of the female ID/male slide OD). This would include GW Field Grade ferrules, Super-Z ferrules, Super Swiss ferrules, etc.

TRADITIONAL ALUMINUM
&
CORK FERRULE PLUGS
We’re proud to bring you a simple, traditional
design in a variety of sizes that will accommodate
ferrules ranging from 8/64-26/64.
Like the ferrule
plugs used by Payne and other classic rodmakers,
these are crafted from polished aluminum and feature a cork plug that can be sanded to fit a range
of ferrule diameters.
We offer five sizes of plugs so
that the visible cap is scaled to match the female
ferrule welt. Please note, the nominal sizes listed below are scaled to match the male OD/female ID for Swiss style ferrules of the same nominal size (not the actual size of the female ID/male slide OD). This would include GW Field Grade ferrules, Super-Z ferrules, Super Swiss ferrules, etc.

the nominal size, that is
to say, the size listed in
the catalog, is either:
A) For straight (or
truncated) ferrules: equivalent to the Inside
Diameter of the ferrules
where they mate with the wood at the ferrule
stations and NOT the ID
of the female where the
female accepts the male
slide.
B) For all step down,
restoration step down,
or reproduction
ferrules: equivalent to
the Outside Diameter
of the male slide or, by
necessity, also equivalent

HEXAGON SERRATED FERRULES
These ferrules are our premium line of nickel silver ferrules, crafted by the masters at CSE and widely recognized as the finest available. Appropriately named Super Swiss, this ferrule system utilizes a time-proven design that needs no introduction.
Traditionally preferred by knowledgeable rodmakers for their superior strength, reliability, and streamlined profile. Not only do the straight bores on both male and female sections accommodate  identical rod shaft diameters, but they also require minimal removal of power fibers which results in the maximum rod strength through the ferrule area.
Super Swiss ferrules are available in both standard (2 pc. rod) and truncated (3 pc. rod) lengths, with inside diameters ranging from 8/64-28/64 (27 & 28 in the Step Down style only). For ferrules complimenting the system used by well-known rodmakers like H.L. Leonard, E.F. Payne, F.E. Thomas, & others, choose the standard length Super SD (step down) ferrules instead. Super SD ferrules are particularly useful for general restoration jobs where precise replication of a maker’s ferrule set is not necessary.
All Standard Super Swiss (SSF), Truncated Super Swiss (TSSF), and Super SD ferrules (SDF) are priced according to the same schedule. Whole set (WS) indicates one female & two males. Half Set (HS) indicates one female, one male. Female Only (F); Male only (M). Males 0.001” oversize.

REPLICA FERRULES
H.L. Leonard - style & E.F. Payne-style standard length ferrules, sizes 8/64-16/64. Faithful replicas complete with trimlines and beading as per the originals. Sold only as 1 female/2 male whole sets. Males are 0.001” oversize. You need these ferrules for a proper restoration job. The rod deserves it! Not all sizes are always in stock so there may be some delay in delivery of these.
These ferrules are great for reproduction rods, too.

RESTORATION FERRULES
Restoration Step Down Ferrules (Skirted Female) for Montague, H-I, South Bend, etc. that have a 2/64 diameter difference between matching female & male joints. We try to stock popular sizes, but others must be special ordered. Expect some delays in delivery.
Please note that since these are “close-but-not-quite” for many ferrule designs made over several decades, you will have to modify the ferrule stations on your cane rods to accommodate minor differences between the originals and these superb quality replacements.
Whole sets are $13.00 more than comparable standard Super SD ferrules (see chart at left); half sets are $7.00 more. Males are 0.001” oversized.
